I am a Masters student in Sensory Disability (Hearing). I am doing some research into: The changes in communication technology and services, and its impact on the Deaf community.

Changes in communcation technology and servies are fine as long a they keep (at least) 2 things in mind. First, the basis of the technology - the percived need and use of it - need to be questioned constantly. If you read the book "Future Shock" (Toffler) you'll find a discussion of the need and use of 'advances' in technoogy. And how what are "advances" today are obsolete tomrrow.

Secondly, what's important is the communiction itself rather than the technoogy. The human comunication is paramount; means of that cmmunication are secondary (especially if they invove that which is non-human.
